Gleb Kuchuk is a Ukrainian actor based in Prague, Czech Republic. He starred in Victim, the 2022 Slovakian Oscar submission, and has appeared in shows like FBI: International and Interview with the Vampire, among others. He also delivered a phenomenal performance as Claudio in the Prague Shakespeare Company’s production of Much Ado About Nothing in 2024.
I sat down with Gleb at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival a few weeks ago and asked him to “Take Five” and answer some fun questions for us. His responses are a delight—I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Let’s get started!
What’s a film (or performance) that changed the way you think about storytelling?
That would for sure be Heath Ledger in The Batman. I learned that his acting technique involved doing something completely different in every take because his philosophy is that "what's written [in the script] cannot be changed" but that the emotional approach can be changed. It's maybe not the way to go in every project, but it did change the way I thought of storytelling from the acting side.
Is there a film or project you worked on that you wish more people had seen?
Victim, for sure! It's on Netflix & HBO Max, and I wish more people saw it cause it was truly a life-changing experience for me and has very good storyline.

If you could swap roles with someone on set for a day, who would it be and why?
My initial thought is to say "the director" because I would like to bring creative ideas to life the way that they do. However, I have a huge respect for sound composers. I love music myself, and seeing how impactful the scores of films can be is very inspiring, so if I could swap roles with someone from the film industry, but that normally isn't on set, it would be them.
What’s your guilty pleasure movie or performance that you’ll defend to the grave?
My guilty pleasure performances would be Tom Ellis in Lucifer or Zac Efron in 17 Again - I love those performances even if they are quite mainstream and funny 🤣
If someone made a biopic about you, what’s the one scene that absolutely has to be in it?
I would say... My first trip to the Cannes film festival this past year. It was such a life-changing week for me. Not only did I leave with a full-expense paid trip to Kenya 🤷🏻♂️, but I also felt so inspired and motivated and grateful to be a part of this industry,
